The most characteristic feature of Nunnally's appearance is the numerous scars from old bullet wounds that run from her ankles to her knees. Normally she wears long skirts or long socks to cover her lower legs. Nunnally favors simple but feminine clothes, dresses and skirts more than slacks or shorts. And while she still loves to wear clothes with texture, she's beginning to really like floral patterns.
Nunnally, in a way, is almost incapable of anger, as she's so willing to try to understand things from the other person's point of view. The only way to get any sort of sharp reaction out of her is to harm her beloved brother, Lelouch. Thoughtful and considerate, Nunnally thinks about the effect her words might have on others and knows when to keep her thoughts to herself. Holding to the belief that she should treat others as she wished to be treated in return, Nunnally does her utmost to be kind to everyone, even those that don't normally receive kindness. She looks for the good in everyone and tries to be a friend to all she meets. Nunnally has a stubborn streak though. She refused to let her disability to distance her from people. And while she knew she needed help and accepted it without fuss, she didn't like for people to coddle her or pity her because of her condition. For all her good points, Nunnally often focuses completely on other people and not enough on herself. Thinking she needs to be strong and cheerful so other people will be happy as well, Nunnally will push her own problems aside, not letting them have the emotional weight they need and doesn't deal with them. She also can be too considerate of other people, not stepping forward to assert her viewpoint when perhaps she should. She also has less concern for her own safety than would be prudent and can be naively trusting.
weaknesses: Nunnally's body is still weak. Though she had therapy regularly during her years in the wheelchair to keep her muscles healthy, she's still learning to use her legs again and can sometimes be clumsy. Running for more than a block is very tiring and as she hasn't participated in anything athletic her lungs aren't suitable for strenuous use.
Her idyllic childhood at the Aeris Imperial Villa suddenly ended when her mother was assassinated. Though Marianne shielded Nunnally with her own body, the girl's legs were shot through in several places and the psychological trauma caused her to go blind. Though her legs were mostly healed due to Britannia's advanced medical technology, Nunnally was unable to walk and was placed in a wheelchair. Not long after their mother's death, Lelouch had an encounter with the emperor and he and Nunnally were sent to Japan in a political maneuver. When they arrived they were taken to the Kururugi shrine to live with the prime minister. Lelouch insisted on carrying her himself up the stairs to the shrine and for quite a while didn't let anyone else touch her. It was at the shrine that Nunnally and Lelouch first met the boy that would become their dearest and closest friend. Sent to live in a storage shed in the back of the shrine, the siblings encountered the boy whose room it had been before their arrival, Suzaku, son of the prime minister. Hearing Lelouch lie to Nunnally about the state of the shed for her sake, Suzaku got into an argument with Lelouch and proceeded to beat the other boy. Nunnally pleaded with him to stop. and realizing Nunnally's condition, Suzaku ran off. Just when Nunnally was starting to settle in, she caught wind of a rumor. The prime minister was planning to marry her to further his political standing, she technically still was a princess of Britannia. Terrified, Nunnally ran away. She couldn't go far in her wheelchair though, due to the unevenness of the ground and the set of stairs she encountered. Tumbling down them, her chair finally fell to pieces halfway. Not one to give up, Nunnally crawled into the surrounding woods. It was Suzaku that found her after she fell into some sort of pit and fainted. The pit turned out to be a storage shelter, and Suzaku's secret base. They began to talk and Nunnally told him about Lelouch and their other half-siblings and the place they used to live in Britannia. Something she said about Lelouch struck Suzaku as funny and he laughed. And Nunnally laughed too, for the first time since her mother had died. Lelouch eventually found them and he and Suzaku made up for their various arguments since the siblings had arrived at the shrine. Their friendship with the Japanese boy progressed quickly after that, Suzaku spending more and more time at the storage shed Nunnally and Lelouch lived in. Lelouch even managed to get the engagement somehow called off. It was fun spending time with Suzaku and Nunnally could almost call the little shed home. She was a little lonely whenever Lelouch and Suzaku ran off to do something she couldn't accompany them on, but she smiled for Lelouch and told him to go, willing to loan him to Suzaku. As summer came to a close, the peace Nunnally had found in Japan was shattered. Britannia invaded, Suzaku's father committed suicide and in the chaos the three children were forced to flee on their own. Thankful for once that she couldn't see as they travelled to safety, Nunnally pretended she believed the lies Lelouch told her about their surroundings. Once they were far enough away from immediate danger, Lelouch contacted the Ashfords, the family that had supported their mother when she was a pilot. To Nunnally's sorrow, Suzaku couldn't come with him, and after the Ashfords came for her and Lelouch, they quickly lost track of him. Telling herself that Suzaku was strong, she kept her worries to herself and smiled for the Ashfords and Lelouch. As the Ashfords ran a school in Tokyo, it was easy for them to install Lelouch and Nunnally there as students. Going by Lamperouge instead of their true surnames, Nunnally and Lelouch joined the student body with some help from Millay, the granddaughter of the headmaster. Once she settled into the apartment the Ashfords had given her and Lelouch on the school grounds, Nunnally set about making friends. First were Millay and Sayoko, the maid the Ashfords sent to help care for the two children. The Ashfords even had a sophisticated wheelchair made for Nunnally and arranged for her to receive medical treatments for her eyes and legs. Nunnally had never been to an actual school before and she was excited to discover what it was like. It was a little alarming to be around so many children at first, but Nunnally quickly adjusted and began to enjoy school, doing well in her classes and making many friends. Nuna-chan they called her, borrowing the affectionate term the Japanese used. As time went on, Nunnally became comfortable in Ashford Academy, though she never forgot the boy who had been her first friend in Japan. Then when Nunnally was in middle school, Lelouch brought home a surprise. The hand was larger than she remembered, but so were hers. In a moment she knew whose hand she held and tears fell from her sightless eyes. Suzaku had returned to their lives and their little trio was complete again. Nunnally couldn't help but notice how much time Suzaku was spending in their quarters, particularly with Lelouch. It seemed as if the years they'd spent apart had melted away in an instant and the two boys were right back to being best friends. More and more often the two boys would stay up talking past her bed time, and when Nunnally awoke Suzaku was joining them for breakfast once again. Nunnally began to suspect she might have to give Suzaku a permanent loan on her brother. As peaceful as it was inside the walls of Ashford Academy, Nunnally still heard about the rebellion that was going on between Britannia and the Black Knights on the other side. But all Nunnally could do was listen to the news as it broadcasted on the television or over the radio, powerless to stop the wave of chaos and destruction that once again rolled through Japan. Eventually, the rebellion succeeded. Britannia's forces were crushed. Suzaku, who they had thought had been fighting for Britannia in his white Knightmare Frame turned out to be a spy, having joined with Zero from the very start. With Suzaku added to their forces, the Black Knights had been unstoppable, cutting down the Britannian army and freeing the Japanese people. As Japan celebrated its liberation and began working to rebuild its government, Lelouch and Suzaku sneaked home to confess something to Nunnally. They'd begun dating, secretly, but wanted her to be the first to know. Though she wasn't entirely surprised, having had her suspicions of it for a while, Nunnally cried with joy. And then, feeling a surge of strength, she pulled herself to her feet, standing for the first time in over seven years, albeit shakily. Feeling daring, Nunnally slowly opened her eyes, and shut them a moment later against the bright dazzle of light and color her eyes hadn't seen in years. She was healed. Over the next year Japan continued to rebuild, repelling attempt after attempt as Britannia tried to reclaim its lost territory. But Japan would bow no longer to the empire, not as long as it had Zero and his Obsidian Knight, Suzaku. There were constant whispers of who Zero really was and Nunnally just smiled to herself whenever her classmates made speculations. Though Lelouch hadn't told her, she knew there was only one person who it could be. Note-worthy deviations from canon: • Suzaku took Zero up on his offer from the start (episode 4), staying in the Britannian military as Zero's personal spy and so they'd have access to the Lancelot. • Suzaku never became Euphie's Knight, and she never came up with the idea for the Special Administrative Region (and is therefore still alive) • V.V. didn't come to kidnap Nunnally so Zero wasn't distracted from the battle • Any other differences are based from the sound episodes
